Itinerary for “Tour of the Valmarecchia”
Km. 95 - Rimini - Novafeltria - Petrella Guidi - S.Agata Feltria - Rimini
You will have a marvellous day if you decide to cross the Valmarecchia territory by bike. You set off in Rimini heading up along the 258 state road, amidst landscapes worth a mention a bit everywhere. After a stop at Novafeltria, a charming town anchored to farming tradition, and after a series of climbs and descents of varying difficulty, you reach Ponte Messa, leaving behind you Pennabilli, famous for its summer antique market and street artists festival. If you start to get a little peckish, we suggest you stop at the bakery in Ponte Messe which you’ll find along the road.
Continuing along the state road at a certain point you come across a road sign for Petrella Guidi, on the right. A delightful medieval village that seems to stand still in time and that will leave you literally enchanted. On your way back, we recommend you visit Sant’Agata Feltria, a picturesque village dominated by the Rocca Fregoso taht often hosts fetes and fairs of notable local products.
You proceed towards Poggio Rimini passing through Perticara and reaching a welcome descent that leads almost to Novafeltria.
The road at this point is the same as on the way out, but much easier to tackle as it is mostly slightly downhill all the way to Rimini. Things to do: a detour to Pennabilli, if you feel energetic enough, because the climb is quite steep, is certainly worth visiting at least once in a lifetime.
As you penetrate the Valmarecchia the landscape becomes wilder and fascinating, the fortresses that you come across along the way are all beautiful, from San Leo in the distance, to Talamello. A plunge into history and nature which will not be easily forgotten.
